ATTENTION HOTEL ENGLISH TEACHERS
Do you need lesson plans for your new job at a luxury resort? (or would you rather just hope the the materials that the hotel provides is adequate?)
Do you want to save yourself countless hours to enjoy the things you really like? (or would you rather spend all your free time doing research in books and on the Internet preparing for your next class?)
Would you like to go into a job interview at a luxury hotel better prepared than other job applicants? (or would you rather just go into the interview and hope for the best?)
Then Hotel and Resort English is just what you need!
Hotel and Resort English contains easy to use, ready made lesson plans specifically geared towards the hotel industry. Each lesson plan covers a specific function that hotel staff are likely to encounter on a daily basis.
In addition, each lesson plan is tailored for specific hotel staff.
As you know, a large hotel employs a variety of staff- such as front desk clerks, bellmen, maids, maintenance staff, waiters, chefs, spa staff, gym staff, etc. The various staff have differing roles within the hotel and their English needs are different. The things a waiter would say to a guest when interacting with them is very different than what a front desk staff would say.
Because of this- the exercises, sample dialogues, and role play activities in Hotel and Resort English are geared to meet the specific language needs of the staff in the situations they would likely encounter.
All the staff may use similar English functions, but the vocabulary used in their various roles and situations may be very different. What are functions? Functions are simply specific situations or circumstances that speakers may face when interacting with others- such as greetings, asking for a order, or giving directions. Functions offer students set sentence and grammatical structures, phrases, and vocabulary to use that are specific to the different functions. Why is this important? Because they allow students to learn usable English that can be applied immediately when interacting with guests. Functions can be easily adapted to cover any number of situations that a student or hotel employee may encounter. How do functions differ from traditionally English lessons? Traditional English lessons may focus on sentence structure, word order, verb usage, vocabulary use and development, and rules of use for the various parts of speech. Granted, all these are needed and useful, but not necessarily easily transferred to actual usage to improve and facilitate communication. What functions are included in Hotel and Resort English? Greeting Guests Dealing with Requests Asking for Permission Problems and Complaints Making Comparisons Compliments Offering help and Advise Opinions Giving Instructions Asking for Repeats Hotel Facilities Days and Time Describing Jobs Describing Functions Directions Shopping Telephone Use Bill Settlement Wh Questions Can and Do questions Verb Tenses and Usage Parts of Speech
You are probably thinking... "Can't I find free lesson plans on the internet? Why should I pay for them?"
Sure, there are hundreds of sites on the Internet that have lesson plans. BUT......
If you prefer, you can spend hours and hours, (may even days and days) searching the Internet or other resources to find just the right materials.

-- Carmel M. - Vietnam -- Teacher in Vietnam As someone who is targeting the hotel industry for teaching Business English, this book has given me materials and lesson plans that can be utilised immediately in the class room. Using much the same approach as the Business-English e-book, the lessons are function based and focused on functions and situations that are likely to be encountered in the hotel industry. The role plays and sample dialogues are extremely useful in allowing students to practice using the language in situations they are likely to encounter when performing their jobs. This book saves me valuable time when planning lessons and helps me ensure my proposals for new business are professional and targeted specifically at the tourism industry. I’m glad I invested in this book! |
